*SKA SA Software Engineer*


The South African SKA Project (SKA SA) is a project of the Department of
Science and Technology(DST), administered by the National Research
Foundation(NRF). SKA SA is responsible for coordinating Africa's
involvement in the design and construction of the Square Kilometre Array
Radio Telescope, the design and construction of the Karoo Array Radio
Telescope (MeerKAT) and the African VLBI Network (AVN), as well as the
development of skills required to design, build and operate these
instruments.



SKA SA seeks to appoint a Software Engineer  to develop control and
monitoring software for the Correlator Beamformer, Digitiser as well as the
Time and Frequency Reference Subsystems of the MeerKAT project and related
system of the SKA SA project.



*Minimum education required:*

??  BSc in Computer Science or Electrical/ Electronic Engineering ( NQF6)



*Minimum work experience required:*

??  A successful applicant will have had 3+ years??? worth of experience
developing software professionally, with at least a year's experience
developing in C.

??  If the applicant holds a Masters??? degree or better, they will be
required to have one (1) years??? experience as above .



*Desirable additional education, work experience and personal qualities:*

??  Ability to work independently and within a team environment

??  Capable of solving problems

??  Ability to communicate well

??  Understand work of others and explain own work to others



*Duties include but not limited to:*

??  Development, testing and support work.

??  Interaction with subsystem managers, team members, project system
engineers and users of the software.



The ideal candidate will have the following competencies:

Ability

??  modify, test, debug and support software

??  develop software

??  perform the latter tasks even on software not written by him or herself

??  perform the maintenance tasks even on software not written by him or
herself



Experience

??  projects involving some form of control and monitoring activity.

??  network programming that have required some understanding of the
underlying protocols

??  developing software for an embedded system or have performed some
network programming



Knowledge

??  linux operating system

??  C programming language and exposure to shell scripting or python

??  associated build infrastructure and revision control systems
