Introduction:

A general description of the role includes designing, defining, testing, installing and maintaining Linux systems 
hardware and software. Support systems recover processes in the event of major problems, and diagnose and resolve
 major system problems. Analysing system performance, making and implementing recommendations regarding systems 
improvements and system tuning. Monitoring systems security. Conducting operating system product installations, 
support and upgrades on servers. Storage management. Providing technical support for systems and 
maintaining servers.

The Incumbent will be responsible for:

Plan and co-ordinate the Install, administrate, Maintain and upgrade Linux hardware and Software. (local & remote) 
Plan and co-ordinate the Install, administrate, Maintain and upgrade backup strategies and software. (local & remote) 
Research and development within the Linux environment (server & workstation) 
Performance monitoring and tuning 
Monitor & administrate mail queue and web sites 
System security management 
Document installations, current structure / infrastructure, system changes & installation procedures, standards and methodology 
User support based on calls from Helpdesk

The applicant should meet these requirements:

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Linux Administration role is essential 
Solid knowledge of  Linux 
An understanding of San solutions 
Experience in Network support an advantage 
Basic Perl, PHP & MySQL experience an advantage 
Linux Certified System Administrator
