Database Developer / Information Analyst
Biodiversity Information Management Directorate
(Graded as Network Controller)

Contract Position  1 year - Salary level 10

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden

SANBI requires an energetic, motivated individual with proven ability
to manage primary biodiversity data as well as the SABIF server and
network hardware. The successful candidate must be able to provide
database support to national digitizing partners and data nodes at a
technical level as well as be able to engage with partners at an
international level.

The successful candidate must be in possession of a BSc in Computer
Science, Information Science or Natural Science or a Diploma in
Programming/ Software Development. This qualification must be enhanced
by at least 10 years relevant experience as well as experience in
administration and management. Sound computer skills and experience
with MS Office, MySQL, SQL server, PHP, Web technologies (ASP,
JavaScript, HTML) MS Access, VBA and GIS are essential.

The appointee will be responsible for: Management of primary
biodiversity data servers and network hardware Providing specialised
technical advice and support to designated nodes and their associated
operating systems & software Developing and supporting multiple tools
and standards allowing data providers to connect their data to the
network Collating, managing and disseminating biodiversity data
Providing technical support to data providers and users. Also draft
reports as requested.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication
skills in English (spoken and written), a pleasant approach to
clients, show enthusiasm and initiative, conduct himself/herself in a
professional manner and have a keen eye for detail. The ability to
work accurately and independently is essential, though teamwork will
also be required.
SANBI offers an all-inclusive annual salary of R377 996.70. This is a
one year contract, with the possibility of an extension for another
three years based on performance and funding.
