Hi!
Frogfoot are looking for some more technical staff.
We have two types of positions available
a) Junior system/network administrator
b) Senior system/network administrator
Note, our Junior = Senior, and our Senior = Rocket scientist.
Our salaries are market related, so please don't worry that you will be
underpaid. We will compensate according to your skill set.
For those not familiar with Frogfoot. We are a small, friendly, niche
Internet Service Provider (ISP) and systems integrator (SI) based in
Mowbray, Cape Town.
We've been around for almost 10 years, are very pro open source, and focus
purely on corporate and wholesale customers with niche requirements.
Our product/service offerings include a comprehensive set of Internet
services, including access services, hosting, co-location, email, security
(VPN, UTM), bandwidth management, and much more.
You will look after Linux servers/routers/gadgets, routers and switches
(Extreme, Cisco, Juniper), Firewalls/UTM (Fortinet), Line bonding (Fatpipe),
Mail (Zimbra), etc and the junior guys also do a bit of support.
If anything, the greatest value we have to offer any prospective applicant
is knowledge. You will learn more about networking, system administration,
and Linux than anywhere else, and once you've spent a few years at Frogfoot,
you will be a much sought after and well respected techie who can get a job
anywhere in South Africa and abroad. Of course, you may opt to stay at
Frogfoot indefinitely (:
Of course, knowledge is not the only thing we have to offer. Our company is
quite small and fun to work for. We're mostly techies, doing techie things,
have flexible working hours, and a lot of fun.
If you are passionate about Linux and networking, want to learn more, and
think you've got what it takes to become the bees knees of sysadmins, then
don't let this opportunity slip through your fingers.
JOB DESCRIPTION
You will work as part of a small team of 2nd level and 3rd level support
techicians who are responsible for all aspects of supporting our existing
and new clients as well as supporting the Frogfoot network infrastructure.
This includes
* Troubleshooting and fixing client problems (Leased line is down, Xen
server is broken, etc)
* Supporting our network infrastructure (Storage, virtual servers, access
servers for ADSL, Wireless, etc) in Cape Town and Johannesburg
* Embarking on client specific projects (which may be anything from
building a high volume mail cluster to rolling out a nationwide VPN to
whatever we dream up for a client)
You must be
* able to work/cope under pressure
* self sufficient, i.e. work on your own with little/no supervision
* hard working
* logical and analytical
* a fast learner
We don't believe in certifications and accolades, so no certifications
necessary. We will test your skills during interviews, so please be prepared
for practical tests.
JUNIOR POSITION
As a guideline, someone who has or is able to pass a CCNA/CCNP type
networking exam and an LPIC type sysadmin exam would definitely have the
required skills to fit our Junior tech description, i.e.
a) must understand ip networking and be familiar with things like ip
routing, dhcp, nat, tcp, udp, etc.
b) must be familiar with Linux and have basic knowledge of UNIX commands,
shell scripting, regular expressions, Mysql, Apache, DNS, etc.
SENIOR POSITION
You must have a fair amount of practical experience and a thorough
understanding of networking and system administration.
With regards to networking, we expect you to have an in depth understanding
of all parts of the OSI stack - routing, switching, transport layers, etc.
You should be familiar with and have practical experience with switching,
routing, high availability, etc. This include concepts such as
VLANs/trunking, STP, channel bonding, BGP, OSPF, RIP, VRRP, NAT, ARP,
Ethernet, VPNs (SSL, IPSEC, L2TP, PPTP, GRE, IPIP, ...) etc.
Familiarity with L2 protocols other than Ethernet (ATM, SDH, etc) would be
beneficial, but not required.
You should be familiar with and have practical experience with network
security, including AV/AS, DDoS protection, IPS, firewall policies, identity
management, etc.
As for system administration, you should be an experienced UNIX system
administrator, know your shell scripting backwards and know at least one
programming language (PHP, Perl, Python, etc). Knowledge of C programming
language would be beneficial, but not required.
You should be familiar with at least some relational databases, mail, dns,
time, web, ftp servers, etc.
You should have intimate knowledge of smtp, dns, http, tcp, udp, icmp
protocols, etc.
If you're the bees knees in one/more areas, but lack the knowledge in
another, then you may/should still apply, but that is not ideal.
