The Climate Systems Analysis Group (CSAG) of the Department of
Environmental and Geographical Science is seeking to appoint an IT
Technical Support Officer. CSAG uses a wide range of high performance
computing and desktop hardware, and the responsibilities of the appointee
will involve assisting with hardware and operating system support (Windows
and Linux) with some basic software related support members within the
research group.
The research group is involved in leading research into global warming and
climate change, seasonal weather forecasting, satellite remote sensing,
policy development and climate/society impacts development. The candidate
would play an important role in supporting the smooth working of the group
and assisting researchers in achieving their objectives.
The appointee should have experience in the following areas:
Computer hardware assembly, debugging and maintenance.
Operating System (Linux and Microsoft Windows) installation,
debugging
and maintenance
Basic understanding of computer networking
Additionally applicants should have strong interpersonal skills. Skills
in other areas such as programming, shell scripting, web development or
databases, or electronics would be an advantage. Excellent opportunities
exist to advance in these areas and to further your experience and
abilities with high performance and scientific computing, whilst working
with leading computing technology.
The annual remuneration package, including benefits is negotiable in the
range R122 381 to R165 586.
