Position: PHP Developer
Location: Cape Town
MIH Africa Digital is in the process of building platforms to extend
its online and
mobile presence across Africa. The digital division is relatively new,
but the vision
and expectations are large.
We are looking for highly motivated PHP (LAMP) developers with a
minimum of 3 years
professional experience.
The successful individuals will be able to manage their own time
responsibly and meet deadlines to which they have committed. The
ability to work in a team and proven leadership ability are essential
attributes.
The successful incumbent will:
* be expected to be very comfortable with MySQL and database
schema design. You will have worked extensively with php4/5, working
always with the goal of producing components for reuse, often by others
* know how to translate a functional (or business !)
requirements specification into a
technical specification
* have written and implemented web services and have an
understanding oted architecture can contribute as well as the pitfalls
* understand the performance implications of the code and
queries he/she writes
* be seasoned in the use of JavaScript and AJAX having gotten
over its gimmick value
* have worked with revision control and understand its
importance in delivering a quality
product.
* know when to ask for assistance.
The following additional skills may well be advantageous:
* MySQL administration and performance tuning in a high volume
(3000+ queries/second)
environment;
* Strong shell scripting skills (sh/bash/csh)
* Python development
