[Clug-work] Vacancy for System Administrator in Abuja, Nigeria

                      Systems and Network Administrator

Initially on contract for 2 years

AUST (www.aust-abuja.org) is looking for a Systems Administrator
with a background in the mathematical sciences to work in Abuja
on a small, highly motivated team on both the AUST network, and
to interact with and support the academic programme.

The incumbent will report to the present IT Advisor for the project,
and take responsibility for:
    . installation, maintenance, and user support of Ubuntu Linux servers
      and desktops in an educational and scientific environment
    . tutoring new Linux users and postgraduate students
    . supporting researchers, lecturers, and staff
    . at times reporting and writing documentation or proposals

The ideal candidate should have:
    . extensive experience in using Linux on the desktop
    . some experience in Linux system administration
    . an understanding of and commitment to FLOSS licences,
      Open Standards, and Open Content
    . good English communication skills
    . the ability to work independently and to multi-task
      pro-actively
    . good trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills

Any of the following are considered advantageous but are
not strictly necessary:
    . a postgraduate background in the mathematical sciences
    . experience in organising workshops or project management
    . experience in training
    . knowledge of French, Arabic, Swahili or other widely spoken
      languages in Africa

Salary: competitive but commensurate with experience

Duties are to commence on 1st May or as soon possible
thereafter. The network has to be installed from scratch
and be ready for the first course to start in June. Some
assistance and training will be provided during this initial
network setup.
